New Addition to the Family & Jasons First Kill at the Property

In November we took a family trip to Arkansas to go duck hunting at a friends farm. While we were there, we met "Wendy", who had been abandoned. Wendy was taken out for a trial hunt by Wendell, and she worked well for him retrieving ducks. I had been wanting another dog for almost two years since Prissy had passed away, and Jason agreed to ask Wendell if we could take her home. Wendell agreed that she could use a home with kids, and soon Wendy was on her way home with us to Missouri. We found out when we got home that Wendy is about 2 years old and we are hoping that she can be healthy and ready for duck season for next fall.

After several trips to the Mississippi to hunt geese, Jason decided to head up to the property to give goose hunting a try there. Emma and Logan and I saw a few geese the week before in the field and had told Jason about them. The first trip was unsucessful, he saw many but shot none. The second trip was much shorter and produced a goose nearly as big as Wendy.

Jason got a call on Thursday that John, the farmer that takes care of our ground, was going to be combining the soybeans. After he got the kids picked up he headed over and let the kids see the combine in action. Logan loved it and called it the combopicker.

Still no house sale, but we have (I should say Jason has) been very busy with the architect working on the drawings of the house as well as estimating the total cost of the project, like any good engineer does. We are still hopeful that our house will sell this fall and we can move forward with our BIG project.

We have enjoyed working with Matt, the architect designing the house, from ebersolt + underwood from St. Louis.

Our First Crop

Well our operator for the farm, John, got the beans planted last week Sunday, and when we went out yesterday they are up and about 2" tall. Jason is totally fascinated with them, and he and Emma measured their growth. We also checked out all the hard work that J has been doing on getting the shipping containers ready for storage. Logan (little tiny thing by the containers) is totally in love with the property and would spend hours digging in the gravel and playing cars in the gravel if we let him.

We are hard at work with the architect finishing up the designs and have taken a leap of faith and there is a FOR SALE sign in our front yard so hopefully we will have lots of lookers soon.

The month of May...

So far we have met with the farmer who will be cropping the ground, picked out where the house will go and had rock and shipping containers built as a start to a storage shed that Jason is going to build.

I am excited for the house plans that are being worked on and I am looking forward to the finished designs!

Dear Friends and Family (from Jason),
Sarah and I make a lifestyle changing purchase today that will allow us to achieve our dream of country living without leaving the convenience of the city. However, we had the good fortune to purchase 13 acres just 2 miles from our current home for a very reasonable price. We purchased the land from Adolphous Bush IV and he had owned this tract since 1912. It’s a very scenic piece completely surrounded by woods with a sloping hillside and a flat area along Belleau Creek. Approximately 8 acres is currently being farmed and we plan to continue with that. Fort Zumwalt North High School borders the property completely on one side. We’ve seen many deer tracks but have yet to see them in person and we’ve watched turkeys pecking around in the corner of the field one evening last week.

We plan to put our house on the marked soon and hope our good luck continues and we are able to sell during the prime summer months. That sale will allow us to start construction on our new home and barn on the property. In order to manage the construction and also avoid a double move we plan to live temporarily in a camper trailer on the land (yes, you can call us rednecks). The kids are looking forward to their “extended” camping trip and the tight living arrangements will be an incentive to get the construction completed as quickly as possible!

So if you know anyone who is looking for an updated 4 bedroom ranch in St. Peters there will be one on the market soon!

New Boy in Town...

March 6, 2009, Mom and I went to Lee, IL and found our new POA, PC Gotta Look Tough. Its been a year now since we lost Mac and though we will never forget him we have had some good times with Tough, and in an uncanny way it feels like we still have Mac. Must be a breed trait, because so many old "Mac-ism's" come out in Tough and we find ourselves saying, "Wow remember when Mac used to do that?"

Farwell Little Mac Attack~Gone but not forgotten

Sadly we lost Little Mac on January 30, 2009 to colic. Dr. Craig worked very hard to help him but he was in a great amount of pain and we chose to let him cross over the Rainbow Bridge and join up with other ponies in the big pasture in the sky.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Meet the Horses!

Little Mac is the FAVORITE of the three. Little Mac is a registered POA pony, born in 1987. Little Mac is a bay with a small white blanket. Little Mac is the character of the group, and the definate low man on the totem pole. Little Mac is registered as Little Mac Attack. Little Mac has two state titles in Beginner Rider 2ft for MHSA for 2002. Mac's new job assignment is taking care of Little Miss Emma and Logan, his future riders.

Skip is a registered Quarterhorse. He has been shown in cross rail & 2'ft hunters. Skip has four titles for MHSA & MOHJO from 2003. Skip shows as I'm Skipping Monday but is registered as I'm A Smooth Skipping Dude. Skip is the largest of three horses, standing just shy of 16H.

Riley is a Bay & White registered Appaloosa. He was foaled in 1996. Riley is the leader of the pack and the most people friendly of the three. Riley has been with us since November of 2003. Riley most recently was the division Champion at the Wine Country Sporthorse Show in "Green as Grass". Riley shows as Life of Riley.
