Late Summer/Early Fall 2016
Lots of things have changed around the farm lately, Jason has committed a good portion of his summer to building the horse barn, and we hope to have the horses in this winter. Emma and Logan both continue their interest in poultry both on the farm and through 4H. We are in the process of building a larger mobile chicken coop that will allow us to rotate the chickens around in the hayfield. We are working to establish another 9 acres of grass adjacent to the farm that is owned by a corporation nearby. Wendy continues to enjoy running wild in the field while we take a look at the grasses and their stage of development.

Busy weekend around the farm. Trees that have fallen down this winter were cleaned up and pushed back into the woods. Hayfields have been over seeded with grass that is more suitable to each individual soil type. The high tunnel has been planted in hopes for getting some early spring veggies. Last but not least tanks have been prepped for baby chicks coming later this week for Emma and Logan's 4-H projects.

Easy Pickin's & New Chickens
Cucumbers have come in full force, and zucchinis also. It's funny to think that I am becoming bored and tired of picking cucumbers every night. Will definitely need to make more pickles this weekend, and considering a freezer recipe for lasagna with zucchini. Peaches should be ready next week, and blackberries from The blackberry bushes that I planted back in the spring of 2010. Lost a few of the chickens over vacation during fourth of July. Raccoons have been hard this year. Replaced them with 10 Bantam chicks that arrived yesterday morning.

Summer begins!
Today is the first day of summer, and we are excited to be having cucumbers almost ready to pick, zucchinis flowering and growing, blueberries ready to pack, basil, cilantro, and tomatoes growing as well. Today also marks the last day of vacation Bible school for Emma and Logan at Assumption. Looking forward to lots of great produce this summer.

What a difference a year makes…
This time last year we were beginning to experience the drought. This year we have had an over abundance of rain and the garden and flowers are doing wonderful. Looking forward to peaches, cucumbers, zucchini, and lots of tomatoes soon.
Emma and Logan enjoy helping in the high tunnel and in the garden also.
All the native perennial flowers and grasses we used for landscaping in the front of the house came back wonderfully from last year.

Around the farm after 4 inch rain the night before...
Took a little walk around the field. Down to the far south point we saw where Belleau creek jumped the bank last night. Wendy went with us. Silly girl. Kiddos had to help catch Easter chicks to put to bed when we were finished.
